The purpose of the Raleigh Aquarium Society is to increase the enjoyment and general knowledge of the aquarium hobby for both novices and experienced hobbyists. Society activities include presentations, field trips, sharing information, trading fish and plants, observation of fishes and aquatic life in aquaria and in their native habitat.

Give us a visit! We have monthly meetings at 7:30pm on the first Thursday of each month at the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine South Theater Auditorium to discuss fishkeeping as a hobby with guest speakers.

We also have an annual workshop and auction plus a summer picnic.

To join our monthly mailing list, send an email to:
raleighaquariumsociety@yahoo.com
raleighaquariumsociety@yahoo.com with "RAS subscribe" as the subject.

May 2013 Program (5/2/13 @ 7:30pm) – “Livebearing Fishes”:

At our May meeting, RAS treasurer, BAP chairman, and master breeder Larry Jinks will speak on the selection, keeping, caring, feeding, and breeding of the livebearing fishes he has worked with. Larry is our club’s most prolific fish spawner. He’s a member of the American Livebearer Association (ALA) and has received credit in their breeder award program for spawning over 70 different species of livebearers from 3 different families. In addition to being an excellent speaker, Larry has earned ALA’s prestigious "Master Breeder Award". From Anableps to Zoogoneticus, Larry will entertain and educate us about the livebearer side of the house.

Please keep those silent auction/raffle items coming in! You can get up to 5 free raffle tickets when you donate up to 5 items for the monthly raffle. If you have non-raffle fish or plants for use in the silent auction, please contact Larry Jinks to tell the membership. Also, we’re always looking for great programs to educate the club on ordinary and not-so-ordinary aquatic-related topics. If you’d like to be a speaker at any of our meetings, please contact Todd Wenzel. We appreciate your support.

Business meetings are open to everyone who is interested in participating in Committees, general business and future plans for the club as well as the Workshop and Auction planning. The Business Meetings are held on the third Thursday of the month at the same location as the regular meetings at 7:30pm. See the latest newsletter for the dates of the business meetings.
